There is a housing crisis in the UK.

21,332 households have been kicked out of their homes by bailiffs since the government first promised to ban no-fault evictions in 2019.

2.2 million renters (34%) would be immediately unable to pay their rent from their savings if they lost their job.

Average UK rents were 14.0% above their pre-pandemic level (March 2020) by August 2022. London rates were 9.8% above.

High inflation, increased rent and property shortages are contributing to the growing homeless epidemic.Over 1 million people are on the waiting list for social housing, and while local authorities have a legal duty to house families at risk of homelessness - they just don't have any properties available.Families in this situation regularly end up in emergency temporary accommodation.

A documentary about emergency temporary accommodation

As of March this year, government figures show that over 104,000 households were living in emergency temporary accommodation - including 131,370 children. The highest number ever recorded. We want to tell the story of those children.Children sharing hotel rooms with their entire family, children with nowhere safe to play, children relying on poor food because of a lack of cooking facilities, children who have been relocated from near their school and friends. We want to raise the issue of emergency temporary accommodation - from the lack of quality accommodation on offer, to the real impact it has on the lives of children and young people.
